Apple released its first computer in 1976. “Lisa”, the first GUI based business computer using a mouse didn’t have the success it deserved at the time, but that didn’t stop Apple to introduce Macintosh in 1984. This machine was the first major release to use a GUI based operating system and mouse.

With MS-DOS based computers dominating the PC market, Apple Macintosh became more of a graphic design computer rather than a general purpose computing machine. This meant that the market share of Apple has not been as great as the MS-DOS based machines and hence more expensive to purchase or maintain.
